Making a difference in Trade Facilitation

While the media is full of stories of “the Wall” and speculation of what the incoming House Democratic Majority is going to have in store for Pres. Trump when they take office next year (investigation and impeachment), most Members of Congress and virtually everybody else on the ground here in DC, are focused on more practical aspects of governance.

First, will there be a government shutdown? Perhaps too glib, but, who cares? It would be nothing new; we all manage to survive these, every few years. It’s more about the threat of political blowback by the public, rather than the actual cessation of government services. Critical government services continue unabated. The ‘August Recess’ is typically the entire month of August, until Congress returns after Labor Day. When we get to August, it’s possible to see whether Congress is going to meet its responsibilities and agenda set forth at the beginning of each year. This year, for the first time in quite a few years, it’s looking like one of the basic functions of Congress might actually be fulfilled, namely passing all 13 appropriations bills necessary to fund all the functions of the United States government – and most remarkably, getting it done before the government’s new Fiscal Year begins October 1.

The Pacific Coast Council of Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders Assns. Inc. (PCC) was established to further the interests of Pacific Coast freight forwarders and customs brokers, their customers, U.S. exporters and importers, and the entire international trade community. It is the primary goal of the PCC to foster the unimpeded flow of international trade along the U.S. Pacific Coast, and to assure the productive participation of forwarders and brokers.
